Guidelines for use

Buttons draw the user’s attention to the most important trigger actions and links. Use sparingly.

  • Less is more. One button is best, two is OK, three is the max.
  • Limit button label text to no more than three words. If a button has long text, try pairing the button with a heading to break it up.
  • Use descriptive text that tells users what to expect. Avoid generic link text such as “More,” “Click Here,” or “Submit.”
  • Don’t overuse buttons. Prioritize the actions you want your users to take when choosing Button vs. Link sets. Avoid sprinkling too many buttons throughout a page.
